ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

What is Collectivités ZéN Gaspésie?
Collectivités Zéro Émission Nette Gaspésie (CZéNG) is a collective approach to building a prosperous, united, resilient and green Gaspésie, for today and tomorrow.
Set up 3 years ago, the initiative is supported by 14 regional partners from diverse backgrounds. We mobilize people and organizations through participatory workshops and working committees. Our aim is to achieve a socio-ecological transition that is fair and equitable, and that reflects the Gaspé Peninsula and its communities.
Collectivités ZéN Gaspésie is on the move.
The next three years are aimed at developing transition paths to a resilient Gaspé Peninsula.
Three major steps:
Step 1 (2024–2025): Develop a shared vision of a better future for all Gaspé communities through Future Exploration Workshops.
Step 2 (2025–2026): Identify trajectories leading to the future we want, working with decision-makers, experts and knowledgeable people from various communities and backgrounds.
Step 3 (2026–2027): Createan operational plan pointing out actions and priorities to be implemented to lead to the future we want.
The socio-ecological transition is an opportunity for the Gaspé Peninsula. We have the power to build a stronger, more united and more prosperous region right now.
Let’s do it together!
*The project is funded by Natural Resources Canada through the Climate Resilient Coastal Communities Program, and supported by CIRADD.
Collectivités ZéN in Quebec: a shared path
The Collectivités Zéro Émission Nette (CZéN) Gaspésie initiative is one of the active CZéNs in Quebec. These territorial initiatives stem from the Roadmap for Quebec’s Transition to Carbon Neutrality completed in 2020 by the Front commun pour la transition énergétique du Québec, which financially supports their deployment.
The CZéN network enable communities to think together about solutions and a desirable future for the region, with a particular focus on climate change adaptation and social justice. Our team
The people who make up the project team work at CIRADD.
They can count on the expertise and support of the rest of the team, in particular Jonathan Morin-Émond and Esteban Figueroa, as well as on the contribution of outsiders such as Benoit Trepanier, who supports the facilitation team as a consultant in bringing the futur exploration workshop to the English-speaking and Mi’gmaq communities.

Territorial recognition
The transition articulated by Collectivités ZéN Gaspésie aims to build resilience and social justice, and is supported by the collective power to act in the Gaspé region, an unceded Mi’gmaq territory linked to the 1760 Treaty of Peace and Friendship.
